Founded in 2023, the institution originated at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and was established by a collective of photographers, scholars, and curators active within North American academic and professional art contexts. Centered on contemporary photography and lens-based practices, the institution operates at the intersection of critical research and artistic production, continuously examining the expressive, conceptual, and cultural potentials of image-making within contemporary society.
As an artist-led photography collective and gallery platform, the institution is committed to developing an open yet rigorous framework for creation, exhibition, and discourse. It foregrounds experimental, conceptual, and cross-disciplinary approaches to photography within contemporary art, and through the realization of critically engaged exhibitions and public programs, fosters dialogue among diverse artistic practices and cultural perspectives, cultivating an international network for exchange and collaboration.
The gallery program focuses on research-driven presentations of contemporary photography and related image-based practices, emphasizing curatorial methodology and the contextual articulation of artworks. It supports artists whose practices demonstrate independent visual languages and sustained lines of inquiry. Exhibitions are conceived as sites of knowledge production and public engagement, positioning photography within broader artistic, theoretical, and social frameworks.
Through exhibitions, artist talks, academic exchanges, and public cultural initiatives, the institution continues to build multi-layered platforms connecting artistic practice, theoretical inquiry, and public participation. Anchored by the gallery space, it seeks to contribute to a dynamic image-based ecosystem characterized by intellectual depth, critical reflection, and cultural relevance
